Stop asking why this happened to you.

You might not like the answer.

We spend obscene amounts of time trying to decode why bad things happen. In the aftermath of heartbreak and abuse, we may well literally formulate the question, but why me?

And sometimes, there’s no answer. Sometimes, it’s a valid question. Obviously no single article can attempt to answer such a large and versatile query. But sometimes, there is an answer, and that answer is,

Because you were in the right place, at the right time. Because the circumstances in your life at that particular point permitted and may have even invited it.

It’s a cheeky answer, one that automatically has us gasping,

What, are you saying I deserved it?!

Not at all. But that’s not what you asked.

Who am I to say what you deserve?

This whole deserving business has taken hold of our society to a quasi-toxic level. And it wouldn’t be such a problem, if it wasn’t such a fanciful notion, at heart. Being honest, how many people do you know in your personal life, who get what they deserve?
